Living History Project in Slough
In Slough a number of different groups and artists were involved in reminiscence work in December 2006.
Students at Wexham Secondary school met with and interviewed older members of the Wexham House day centre. They worked with performance poet Joseph Coelho to create piece of poetry based on their conversations and the reminiscences they had heard.
Textile artist Seiwa Cunningham and writer Samina Baig worked with groups of older community members at the Milan centre, Slough. Together they led reminiscence sessions which saw groups of ladies reenacting their wedding days, sessions discussing leaving home and coming to make lives in England. From the discussions that took place a piece of textile art was created.
At Slough library, poet Joseph Coelho and textile artist Ferhanna Mohammed worked to create a textile book that collected participants memories, the group talked about their school days, their journeys to England and the changes they have seen in Slough.
At the Age Concern drop in centre on William Street, a group of gentlemen shared their experiences of leaving home and coming to England.
