About Living History

Since December 2006 Rifco Arts (a British Asian Theatre company based in Slough) have been working on the Living History project, which has been supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The aim of this project was to get groups of young people and older South Asian community members from five places in the country, to work together, learn something about each other and create pieces of art together. With the help of professional artists, students and older participants have been involved in East London, Leicester, Leeds, Slough and Coventry. We wanted to get generations talking, to promote understanding and to explore what influence the past has had on the cities we know today.

Our new website is the next stage of this project which we hope will become a home for the stories of elders of South Asian origin. We want young people to talk to their grandparents, the older members of their families and their family friends in order to record and share their memories of coming to England and establishing homes, families and communities here. The website will become an online storage space for these stories, memories and pictures, what would you like to add?
